In the wake of Netflix, the SVOD market increases its prices. Quiz Lady (film) – November 3

A comedy about two completely opposite sisters with Sandra Oh in the credits? That’s already a big yes! In this film directed by Jessica Yu, the actress plays Jenny, a colorful woman who reunites with her sister Anne (the rapper and actress Awkwafina). When Jenny realizes that Anne is really good at quiz shows, the two women embark on an unlikely journey to enter and win the jackpot! A well-written sorority comedy, delivered by captivating actresses, is all we ask for in these dark times.

The Devil’s Harmony (short film) – November 3

One of the strengths of Disney+ is the quality of its shorts. This month the platform will go into horror The devil’s harmonydirected by Dylan Holmes Williams, and which won the International Fiction Jury Prize at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. This addition to the Disney+ catalog is noteworthy because this miniseries written and directed by Hannah Fidell (adapting her 2013 film of the same name) caused a stir when it premiered in 2020 on FX. Animated by Kate Mara’s interpretation, it tells the story of the illegal relationship between an English teacher in her early thirties and a 17-year-old student. The story spans 10 years and explores the influence and trauma this relationship has left on the young man. Finally a series that focuses on the teacher/student relationship without glorifying it and exploring its psychological repercussions on the minor.

Charlotte’s Jane (documentary) – November 17

Another addition to the Disney+ catalog to note, this documentary film by Charlotte Gainsbourg, released in theaters in 2022, and in which she films her mother, Jane Birkin, then 75 years old. This intimate, almost immodest documentary, between two nevertheless extremely close women, took on a new value after Jane Birkin’s death last July. It’s even more moving to witness these exchanges between mother and daughter, exploring their relationship under the eye of a sympathetic camera. A tip: don’t forget the tissue box.
