On Monday 30 October, FIFA announced the disqualification of Luis Rubiales for a period of three years. The former president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), who forcibly kissed player Jenni Hermoso during Spain’s coronation at the World Cup, is now banned from exercising “any activity related to football at a national and international level” in this period.
Luis Rubiales will appeal
Shortly after the announcement, Luis Rubiales said above (formerly Twitter) which intended to appeal the decision: “I now announce that I will appeal. (…) I will use my last resort to ensure that justice is done and the truth comes outAnd”.
On August 20, during the final of the Women’s World Cup, from which the Spaniards emerged triumphant, Luis Rubiales surprised player Jenni Hermoso in front of cameras around the world. A stalemate ensued that lasted several weeks, until the former football tycoon, who remained faithful to his version of events – that of a consensual kiss – ended up resigning. Initially suspended for 90 days by FIFA and accused of “sexual assault” by Spanish courts, he is now banned from coming within 200 meters of the player.
Following this great controversy and the structural changes requested by the La Roja players, the RFEF ended up sacking many of its managers, close to Rubiales, including Jorge Vilda, coach of the women’s team, who has since been replaced by Montse Tomé.
