A homemade grenadine diabolo, supplement for bulging eyes

5 cocktail and mocktail recipes, with and without alcohol, special for autumn or Halloween

To scare your guests, there’s nothing better than focusing on the decoration, even for a simple drink. To the base of a blood red cocktail such as strawberry soup, a diabolo grenadine or even a simple red fruit smoothie, you can add fake googly eyes made from a lychee garnished with a blueberry (which is easily found all year round in the frozen fruit section, alone or in a mixture of red fruits). Pressed one (the blueberry) into the other (the lychee), the fruity result fits into any glass and will especially appeal to children! And instead of a homemade 0% grenadine, 100% sugar diabolo (since you just mix grenadine syrup with lemonade, Sprite or Seven Up), you can choose to mix in a large handful of frozen fruit to top with water (still or sparkling) for a deliciously spicy and less sugary smoothie to decorate with googly eyes.

  • 1 handful frozen red berries (including some blueberries for googly eyes)
  • Still or sparkling water
  • 1 handful canned lychees (to hold the blueberries and make the googly eyes)

Bloody Marys

This might be the most obvious recipe that comes to mind when you think of Halloween, but it’s still the bomb. All you need is tomato juice, vodka, freshly squeezed lemon, a few drops of Tabasco or Sriracha (optional) and Worcestershire sauce (optional) and you’re done. The ideal is to serve it with a stick of celery so you can stir the glass of the blood-red result and bite into some vegetables if you feel like it.

  • 12 cl of tomato juice
  • 5 cl of vodka
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 2 drops tabasco or sriracha (optional)
  • 2 drops Worchestershire sauce (optional)
  • 1 stick of celery or celery salt (optional)

Spooky and tasty

This cocktail is composed of Cointreau (triple sec liqueur made from sweet and bitter orange peels), amber rum, a few drops of bitters and a layer of enigmatic and playful foam. Simply combine the first ingredients in a glass and top with a sip of ice-cold Coca-Cola to deliberately create a layer of foam on the top of the glass. If you prefer to avoid this soda, you can replace it with egg white or whipped aquafaba, which will give a less sweet and more protein-rich result to your dish. Spooky and tasty !

  • 2 cl of Cointreau
  • 3 cl of amber rum
  • 4 drops of aromatic bitters
  • 1 Top of Coca-Cola mousse or beaten egg white

Autumn Shandy

If you like to be scared, you will love this cocktail which features the classic Shandy (mixture of beer and lemon juice, a bit like the Shandy). L’Autumn shandy is made from Cointreau, freshly squeezed lemon, and Pumpkin Ale, a beer brewed with pumpkin or other squash. Easy to find in the United States, it is slowly but surely becoming more popular in France. If you can’t find one, you’re more likely to come across ginger ale, which is beer in name only as it’s more similar to ginger ale. The result will be less alcoholic but much more spicy ! Just mix all the ingredients together in a glass, then decorate with a little grated nutmeg or cinnamon and you’re done!

  • 4.5 cl of Cointreau
  • 2 cl of fresh lime juice
  • 9 cl of Pumpkin Ale or Ginger Ale

Martini without alcohol and tonic, decorated with blood orange

If you like martinis, you might be happy to know that they also come in a non-alcoholic version. Floral allows you to highlight Roman chamomile and other aromatic plant essences for a perfect floral and herbaceous result. While the Vibrant version offers notes of bergamot and orange. To make mocktails, simply serve them cold with sparkling or tonic water, fill the glass with ice cubes and decorate with a slice of blood orange for a Halloween touch.

  • 1 volume of non-alcoholic Floral or Vibrant Martini (4 cl)
  • 2 volumes of Tonic (8 cl)
  • 1 slice of blood orange
