Chris Eubank Snr has spoken of the pain of losing his brother – two years after the tragic death of his son – after a five-year “soul-destroying” battle with dementia: “He lived locked in his own body for the last . two years.” years

Boxing legend Chris Eubank Jr. paid a moving tribute to his brother Simon after he died aged 61 last month after a long battle with dementia.

Simon’s death was confirmed in September, and his son Harlem – who also boxed – posted a heartfelt tribute to X shortly afterwards.

Eubank Snr has now spoken about the suffering his brother endured in his final days in a care home after being diagnosed with dementia five years ago.

The 57-year-old admitted he was saddened by the loss, but acknowledged his brother is “truly at peace now.”

“Simon had frontal lobe dementia,” Eubank Snr explained in an interview with The sun.

“He lived locked in his own body for two years. “Watching someone twitch constantly while awake for a year and a half is soul-destroying,” Eubank Sr. said. told The Sun.

“My brother always showed me love, he always protected me.” Simon once saved my life. He was the one who truly loved me, which is why I recited Corinthians 1:13 at his funeral.

“It’s about how love is the most powerful of all things, and I recited it for him and for what he did for me. In many ways it is a mercy that he has left us. He is truly at peace now.’

Eubank Snr was known for his warrior mentality in the ring, which saw him win world titles in two weight classes, while also being heavily punished throughout his 13-year professional career.

Despite being involved in a number of grueling battles, he claims he is not worried about developing dementia as he has worked hard to “keep my memory in shape”.

“You have to train your brain. What I’ve found good is holding on to philosophies of memory and then presenting them to the audience,” he said.

“I fought like that. Throughout my career I have taught myself to be cognitive and keep my memory fresh by memorizing these poems.

“I’ve been smart throughout my career. No doubt I got hit a few times. I took terrible damage, but nowhere near as many fighters.’

Eubank Snr is going through an incredibly difficult time in his life. His brother’s death comes just two years after his son Sebastian died of a heart attack aged 29.

Looking back on the loss of his son, he admitted that he would never be able to get over his death.

“I will never get over the loss of Sebastian,” Eubank Snr continued.

Harlem will face Germany’s Timo Schwarzkopf (right) in Brighton next month.

It seems that the Eubank family has grown closer together after the recent tragedies surrounding Chris Eubank Jr. He is often seen caring for Sebastian’s son Raheem, who was born shortly before his father’s death.

Eubank Snr also stated that he now treats Simon’s son Harlem, who sat next to him during the interview, as his own as he continues to progress his boxing career.

Harlem is unbeaten in 18 fights as a professional and will step into the ring for the first time since his father’s death when he takes on Germany’s Timo Schwarzkopf in Brighton on November 10.
