The B-52s will perform at the White House state dinner for Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his partner Jodie Haydon on Wednesday.

The South Lawn event will also feature guest chef Katie Button.

The White House confirmed a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the B-52s would intervene. Formed in 1976 in Athens, Georgia, the group used southern slang for oversized, flamboyant hairstyles. Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, Keith Strickland, Cindy Wilson and Ricky Wilson were the original members, but guitarist Wilson died of AIDS in 1985.

After a farewell tour, the group had a residency in Las Vegas this year.

The state dinner usually includes a special entertainment program. Jon Batiste was chosen last year for President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden’s first state dinner for French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte.
