It’s starting to smell like new notebooks and pens, we’ll soon be putting away our skirts and shorts, but that doesn’t stop us from continuing to read all these beautiful albums, and sharing them with you.
Louise Bourgeois, the artist who made giant spiders (and didn’t care), for 6 years
On sale at Phaidon editions, written and illustrated by Fausto Gilberti, Louise Bourgeois, the artist who made giant spiders (and didn’t care) it is a small nugget. Tracing the life and inspirations of the great Louise Bourgeois, this album is a superb introduction to art. The artist’s childhood and the birth of his famous work are told in simple and poetic words Momthe giant spider is explained with great tenderness.

Dino Pop, from 1 year
Great, a new pop-up book! You know by now, I have a mad love for pop-up books, whatever they are. And this is no exception to the rule, not to mention that in addition to being superb, it speaks of the birth of a baby dinosaur. Written by Tony Voincvhet and illustrated by Charlotte Lemaire, all published by Saltimbanque editions, dino-pop it will be greatly appreciated by all the little ones without teeth.

Small island, from 2 years
Bruno Nunes Coelho signs a superb soft album for Gallimard Jeunesse. The story of a small island, often alone, who meets her boyfriend for life, a man stranded after what we imagine to be a shipwreck. A little jewel of poetry all in cardboard (therefore resistant to the hands of destructive children, we know them, huh), which questions the child about loneliness, the world around him and friendship.

Free, from 6 years old
The new summer album by Amélie Graux, brilliant illustrator, published by Little Urban editions, which we love at Madmoizelle. Free, the day I freed the animals, tells the story of Simon, who visits the zoo with his family, and is dismayed to see all these animals locked up. Neither one nor two, he imagines a grand escape plan so that everyone can find their home. A nice crush!

Billy (the good, the bad and the heroine), from 6 years old
And hop, another favorite signed by Little Urban editions, with Billy (the good, the bad and the heroine) by Loïc Clément and Clément Lefèvre. The meeting between the alleged Billy the Kid and Calamity Jane, who come to the defense of an abused horse and who stand up to the bullies. The graphics are superb, the words perfectly chosen, the story is gripping, a real treat that we wish we could see more often.

When I was little, during the Second World War, for 8 years
The story, written and illustrated by the couple Hélène Lasserre and Gilles Bonotaux, published by Editions Saltimbanque, is very well told, while the subject remains very delicate and difficult to approach to the little ones. The wartime occupation as seen by a little girl growing up in a changing and darkening world is a nice way to approach this part of our history, very gently.

Ratatin, from 4 years old
Shrunken, this is the name of this little character addicted to the bathroom. He loves to see his skin wrinkled, he can spend the day in the fleet lounging, until he has used up water, there is not a drop left. Written by Mélina Schoenborn and illustrated by Felipe Arriagada-Nunez, all published by La courte Scale, this album is as beautiful as a nice warm bath in winter and a large swimming pool in summer.

Toubien Toumal on vacation, from 5 years old
Toubien and Toumal are opposite twins: one does everything right, the other does everything wrong. And this time they go on vacation, and once again show all their differences, taken to the extreme. With a lot of humor and lightness, this new episode of the famous duo written by Julien Hirsinger, Constance Verluca and Cathy Karsenty, published by Gallimard Jeunesse, is perfect for the summer holidays.

There’s an alligator under my bed, ages 3 and up
Is your child afraid of the monster under the bed? Well, the time has come to read him this beautiful album, written by Mercer Meyer and published by Gallimard, in his collection “L’heure des histoire”. If one kid can get rid of the alligator that crouches under his bed and hides it in the garage, everyone can do the same, right? This classic is perfect for helping little ones tame their fear, with lots of sweetness and absolutely perfect illustrations.

Max wants to do it himself, for 2 years
A new addition to the “Max et Lapin” collection edited by Nathan, written by Astrid Desbordes and illustrated by Pauline Martin. This time Max wants to do everything by himself, like the grown-ups. There are failures, there are mistakes, but it doesn’t matter, as long as there are hugs.
