According to one study, one in two women has been harassed at the beach

This IFOP study highlights the lack of safety for women on the beach, especially if they practice topless.

While the beaches are still crowded, the IFOP, the FLASHS agency and the tourist site Travel with us presented on Thursday 24 August the result of a study conducted among French women. On the occasion of the World Day of topless which will take place on Saturday, August 26, the electoral institute has found that the beach is “ scene of inappropriate and dangerous behavior ” for women.

And it’s not surprising the percentage of women who practice topless is particularly concerned about these assaults or attacks of a sexual nature, 64% of them considering having experienced harassment on the beach and 44% having experienced sexual assault.

To defend themselves, women implement avoidance strategies

Another alarming fact: 27% of the women interviewed say they have already been teased or stared at, while 65% of women under 30 say they have suffered some pressure to reach the beach.

Faced with these behaviors oppressive46% of the women interviewed admit to starting “ Strategies to avoid when going to the beach“, while 22% give up going unaccompanied.

Fear of being attacked on the beach resulting in a decline in the practicetopless. Also according to the study, only 25% of people under 50 dare to go topless on the beach, compared to 43% 40 years ago.
