Today, without exaggeration, the main holiday of Russian graduates – “Scarlet Sails” – will take place. Every year, hundreds of thousands of spectators gather in Palace Square, right in the heart of the Northern capital, to enjoy the show. “Scarlet Sails” has accompanied eleventh graders into adulthood for 55 years. This year the organizers have prepared many surprises that we are sure will remain in the memory of the graduates forever. The holiday will begin with the performance of popular artists. Yulianna Karaulova will perform the hits Gafur, My Michel, Burito, Tosya Chaikina, The Hatters, Gayazovs Brothers and LYRIQ. And the well-known group “Chayf” will be the lead actor. Parting words will be spoken by the hosts of the event, Dmitry Khrustalev and Ida Galich.
The culmination of the evening is an unforgettable fireworks display and a brigade of red sails sailing along the Neva. Not only graduates, but also St. Petersburg residents and their guests will also come to watch the performance. Hundreds of thousands of people living in other cities will traditionally come together at the beginning of the screens and watch the online broadcast of the holiday. 1968
The date of the main holiday of Russian eleventh graders began on the night of June 27-28, 1968. That evening, 25,000 Leningrad graduates gathered for the first time at the Palace Bridge and Admiralteiskaya Embankment, where they saw the symbol of the celebration – a brigade with red sails. The event was greatly appreciated by those present, so it was decided to organize the graduation party in this way.
In 1979, the holiday took place for the last time in the history of the USSR. After it was decided to cancel Scarlet Sails. The reason was a large crowd of people. Only 26 years later, in 2005, graduates were again able to see a brigade with red sails.
900 square meters
The two-masted brigade “Russia” is the main symbol of the holiday. It was created in 2019. The area of the red sails is about 900 square meters.
