At Le Mans, a man convicted of pirating Taylor Swift’s upcoming album

During the production of the record, a man stole ten copies of the reissue of “Speak Now”, which is scheduled for release next July.

While she’s been on a world tour since March, Taylor Swift would have done just fine without this unexpected event. On Friday, June 9, a 43-year-old man was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment for stealing ten copies of the singer’s forthcoming album from the pressing warehouse where she works: the reissue of her third opus. Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), found Western France.

The theft of these albums – whose release is scheduled for July 7 – took place in Le Mans (Sarthe), in the warehouse of MPO – Moulages Plastiques de l’Ouest, a company in charge of printing records for the European continent.

Two discs still in the wild

Not content with simply stealing the albums, the individual sold some on Leboncoin. Two for €25 each and four for €50 each. Only one of his buyers turns out to be actually an employee of his company, who works in the human resources department.. Managing to unmask him, he warns the police, who intervene at the thief’s house. The latter tried to escape through the roof, but was eventually caught and arrested.

In his defence, the 43-year-old spoke to the Le Mans court about his financial woes. He would then simply act “opportunism” AND “make ends meet”. For the moment, two discs sold on Leboncoin are still untraceable, which can have serious consequences, as the album could potentially be subject to pirated copies.
