8 years ago, Aude Livoreil-Djampou, doctor of chemistry, hairdresser and founder of Studio Ana’e salons, caught the attention of the Ministry of Education highlighting the lack of training in styling and caring for curly, curly and frizzy hair.
It must be said that the results are overwhelming. If classic salons know exactly how to treat Caucasian and Asian hair, People with textured hair have always encountered a lot of hair discrimination. Lack of knowledge on the subject, sometimes derogatory comments, refusal of treatment or serious traumatic mistakes… According to the media Slate, in France there are only 200 hairdressers capable of taking care of textured hair. A big problem, according to the Representative Council of Black Associations of France (CRAN), since 20% of the French population would have this type!
Fortunately, Aude Livoreil-Djampou’s struggle was not in vain, as the first Hairdressing Professional Qualification Certificate dedicated to this type of hair has just been adopted.
A tender has been launched for hairdressing schools
To enable hairdressing students to understand how to care for textured hair, a call for hairdressing schools was launched in early 2023 across France. Some have even applied to teach this diploma. A big step which, we hope, will lead to greater equality in a field which, until then, taught professionals how to distort frizzy, curly, frizzy hair (through straightening or smoothing of all kinds), rather than dealing with it…
