Interview with Charlotte Pouget
To miss. Do you want to introduce yourself? How would you describe the content of your channel?
Charlotte Pouget. I am 26 years old, I studied fashion design. I’ve always been passionate about it and today I’m a content creator on Instagram and Youtube. I mainly talk about fashion, from fashion shows to news.
What prompted you to start on Youtube?
I started this adventure by creating my YouTube channel @CharlottePouget for an end of year project during my studies; finally people really liked what I proposed and I saw the number of my subscribers increase rapidly. I was surprised by this enthusiasm but I decided to take the opportunity to be able to blossom into what I loved the most: fashion!
What makes you occupy a unique place there today, in your opinion?
I don’t think I’m a unique person but today I’m trying to offer content that is currently not very present on social networks. I turn my YouTube videos and Instagram posts towards more journalistic content by offering my own formats Let’s talk about Fashion or some Fashion news on Instagram.
What is your relationship with fashion, your body and your image?
Fashion has helped me to accept myself, to take possession of my body. It allows me to express myself, I feel more comfortable and more confident thanks to fashion.
What is the video you are most proud of to date?
I would say mine Let’s talk about Jacquemus Fashion shot with my stylist friend Clément. This is a video that I loved filming. I also liked the idea of offering a less popular format, between YouTube videos and podcasts.
Has the pandemic changed your relationship with YouTube and fashion?
We had to adapt but it was the same for everyone. In the end, the shows were digital, so we were all able to witness them live on the brands’ social networks, but also see new forms of presentation. They’ve changed the way they approach the show and obviously that’s changed the way I approach them as well. It was pretty cool.
If you could change one thing in the fashion industry, what would it be?
There are many things we could highlight in this environment. But what strikes me most would be the issue of inclusiveness in this area. Luckily today we see things starting to change, new designers are more sensitive and even the big houses are taking over. We’re in it and it feels good!
Is there a brand in which you particularly recognize yourself?
I don’t have any favorite brands, it usually depends more on the designers, the seasons, the collections.
I’m currently a fan of Demna Gvasalia’s work for Balenciaga or Alessandro Michele for Gucci, for example. Both have strong universes and have made a real impact in their respective homes, trying to take into account current issues in our society. They are not the only ones but they are personalities that I particularly appreciate.
What is the best style/fashion advice you would give to people?
Try without raising a barrier! Try before you tell yourself “it doesn’t fit me”, “you have to be thin to wear it” OR “you gotta have shapes to look good”. You have to start, we often have nice surprises!
