Last night marked the fashion editors’ calendar with a special star – an hour ago the Met Gala Costume Institute ball, rightly called the fashion industry’s “Oscar”, ended in triumph. The event has become truly rich in worthy star debuts – after all, the main theme of the event codenamed “Karl Lagerfeld: Beauty Line” is imperative. But by the law of the genre, there was room for downright unsuccessful images tonight. And even a few dozen.
Since 2017, the outfits of celebrities at the Met Gala have become more of an incomprehensible bullshit: stars occasionally appeared on the event’s red carpet in outfits that defy reasonable explanation – after all, no one has revoked the viral content creation rules. And although this year there were several times less such initiatives than in previous years, there were certainly outstanding ones. For example, Kristen Stewart again decided to question her “deliberate” femininity and opted for a rebellious Chanel suit with a tight top and comfortable bottom instead of a dress. And there is literally nothing in the image of an actress that rhymes – at least not to look far from the magnificent union of cropped trousers and shoes.
Billy Eilish made a losing bet in gothcore – a lace dress from Simone Rocha completely surpassed the dignity of her figure. However, to my great surprise, the chiseled proportions of the same thing happened with Emily Ratajkowski, where we were ready to compose ghazals forever. Up to this point, of course: the huge corset top of the Tory Burch dress added good volume to the model’s hips, and the outfit as a whole smells of real mothballs.
And finally, a few words about Kim Kardashian. The model recently appeared on the red carpet among the stars, and honestly it would be better not to appear. Okay, Kim chose a Schiaparelli look that requires 50,000 freshwater pearl beads, 16,000 crystals, and 1,000 handcrafted hours—almost 42 full days. But her dress doesn’t live up to Karl Lagerfeld’s legacy because we focus more on ethnicity than the master’s signature touches. Needless to say, we’ve rounded up the worst images from the Met Gala that just ended, of the stars you’ll want to let go.
