Dylan Mulvaney originally said that she “decided to get in the back seat and let her rest,” and today posted a video on TikTok announcing that she had a change of heart. Mulvaney, of course, is the transgender influencer who hosted a Bud Light March Madness contest for her and caused a firestorm.
Conservative entertainers and politicians have spoken out against Budweiser and called for a boycott. An excited Kid Rock posted a shocking video of himself shooting down cans of Bud Light with an assault weapon while yelling “f*ck Bud Light!” Others, both famous and otherwise, followed suit.
Mulvaney said today that what convinced her to speak out was not a desire to address critics, but a need to reach out to the nearly 13 million people “who ended up liking me enough to follow button on these apps.” click.

What I struggle with the most is that I grew up in a conservative family and I am extremely fortunate because they still love me very much. And I grew up in the church, and I still have my faith for who I am Real try to hold on now But I’ve always tried to love everyone, you know, even the people who make things really, really hard. And I think it’s okay to be frustrated or confused by someone, but what I have a hard time understanding is the need to be dehumanized and cruel. I just don’t think it’s right. Dehumanization has never solved anything in history.
I’m embarrassed to even tell you this, but I was nervous that you would start to believe the things they say about me because they are so loud. But I will just move on and trust that the people who know me and my heart will not listen to that sound.
What interests me is to make people laugh again and never stop learning. And in the future I want to share parts of myself here that have nothing to do with my identity. And I hope that these parts will still be exciting and enough for you. And to those of you who support me and choose to see my humanity even if you don’t understand or relate to me, thank you.

Anheuser-Busch reportedly took a financial hit after Mulvaney’s endorsement. Bar owners, stores and retailers across the US are all reporting severe declines in Bud Light sales.
Brendan Whitworth, CEO of Anheuser-Busch, issued a statement attempting to clarify the company’s position.
“We have thousands of partners, millions of fans, and a proud history of supporting our communities, military members, first responders, sports fans and hardworking Americans everywhere,” Whitworth said. “It was never our intention to be part of a conversation that divides people. Our job is to bring people together over a beer.”
The company even brought out its iconic Clydesdales and images of American landmarks from New York City to the Grand Canyon, with a festive voiceover conveying a patriotic message.
“This is a story bigger than beer,” says the narrator. “This is the story of the American spirit.”
At one point, the ad shows two people raising an American flag, one of whom places a hand on her heart.
