In a fairy tale: 5 reasons to choose an individual wedding dress tailoring and not miscalculate

Very soon, not yet again, but again, the wedding season begins triumphantly. But according to the laws of the “happily ever after” genre, serious venues are already brimming with people who want to at least take a look at the design of the halls, and the presenters are creating schedules and schedules big and strong. By the way, such a burden falls on dress salons almost all year round, because the first time the bride hears the code word “wedding”, she immediately becomes the most organized person in the world. And now, let’s say, he runs to the store to try it out for six months. And after the next ten or twenty – according to another assumption of the genre, love of dress at first sight only happens in the movies. Read Carrie Bradshaw’s Vivienne Westwood outfit that “could make even the most faithless woman cry at a wedding.”

With the fashion industry’s general trend towards personalization, a fun alternative direction has started to gain special attention – tailoring for a wedding dress. It’s not just about taking measurements to manufacture a product – the story here is much deeper and ultimately more conscious. And yes: individual tailoring is a very “cinematic” phenomenon. In general terms, the director can be defined as a fairy tale with an intentionally happy ending. And when it comes to purchased wedding dresses, the latter is extremely rare. After all, force majeure can happen at the ceremony, when the prospective spouses remember much more often than to dance until the morning of victory.

We talked almost with fanfare with Nesty Odina, the fashion designer of Nesty Odina bridal and evening dresses, and emphasized all the advantages of tailoring dresses. From the perfect match to the concept to a real therapeutic effect – everything is such that on the most important day, the bride’s main problem was a relative’s not-so-perfect tenor, who “suddenly” appeared at the banquet with a musical surprise.

everything for you

Let’s start, perhaps, with the perfectly logical one – individual measurements. In the wonderful world of design, the dimensional grid is not limited to the bust, waist and hip circumferences. According to the product, neck size, back length, shoulder width, arm length, arm circumference and of course skirt length are taken into account. In bridal shops, dresses are sewn according to traditional patterns, no, no, and in most cases unsuitable for brides for whatever reason. The most common example is by height. And the truth of celebration is that even a small aspect can make a big difference.

Of course, for the problem mentioned in the paragraph above, the teams of the wedding halls always have a solution – to replace it. One “but” – the product will no longer be the same as before. It is not in vain that a peculiar proverb has developed in the professional community: “It is always easier to sew a new one than to replace it.” A tailor-made dress creates a feeling of immense confidence and sheer comfort on the next step down the aisle. And, accordingly, control over the situation, which is worth its weight in gold on the day of celebration.

“Bespoke tailoring always has a special originality and magic. The flight of fantasy is not limited here – the bride can express herself as much as possible and ideally choose an image for the wedding concept. We embody the most incomprehensible ideas and desires, and the bolder the designer, the more interesting the main difference in sewing the dress to order. Second, and no less important, is the perfect fit, created by experimentation. Together we smooth out silhouettes, lines, cuts, folds, add something to a new circle or, on the contrary, reduce it. Unfortunately, even the most “standard” figure does not always fit ready-made dresses in the salons.

The third difference is non-trivial fabrics. For example, in my work I use natural silk, less often viscose and cupra, and with very rare exceptions I try mixed materials with synthetics to create a cosmic texture. Therefore, even the most concise dress with straps always looks expensive.

One thing – all the magic above only happens when the time issue is also taken into account. Ideally, it is better to start sewing a wedding dress at least 2 months in advance. It all depends on the choice of fabric, decorative details and the subsequent supply of materials. Keep in mind that at the height of the season, the workload can be very tight a few months in advance – there are often occasions when a designer may refuse to tailor it.

Dreams Come True

A wedding dress is not just an everyday look to go to the office, but the terms where the quantity doesn’t change much are rearranged. Let’s say this is a real date – a symbiosis of all childhood dreams, favorite items in the wardrobe and further down the list, no less pleasant to the heart. Often the bride doesn’t even know where she got the idea to pin a textured organza flower on a bodice—perhaps it was her mother who wore it around her jacket lapel in the far-flung ’80s. This type, sometimes under unconscious requests, requires fashion designers for tailoring. They are the ones who can gather all your character traits, appearance and style traits in one winning idea. And of course to make dreams come true, because in the wedding halls you still have to give up something.

Nesty Odina: “And personally for me this is my favorite part of the tailoring process. Moodboards, nostalgia, stories about times or all ages – I love it. I listen carefully, analyze everything, choose the most relevant and interesting, to the individual characteristics of the bride In other words, I combine his own vision with what best suits his figure, height, character and color type.

Often there are even several to choose from. For a fashion designer at this level, the ability to feel is very important. And where without it, experience.

as a whole

Any competent agency team or organizer knows: a wedding is a whole story, and even the shape of the peony rose buds on table 5 plays a role. The dress is a big component of the entire celebration. And it turned out that it should be in perfect harmony not only with the bouquet and shoes, but also with the overall concept. Often the bride collects inspiration boards of sophisticated empire-style dresses, and the celebration is planned with a boho bias. It was precisely such an oversight that happened to the author of the article, when next to the wedding in the Italian style there was a more appropriate outfit for visiting the Catherine Palace in the capital.

The indisputable fact is that the general vision of the concept of the future celebration does not always coincide with the financial capabilities of the bride and groom. And the format of the dress must also be transformed into new realities. Having previously perused the wedding mood board, the designer seems to combine debt with credit, turning the bride’s outfit into the main addition rather than a separate part of the epic. In addition, the fashion designer can advise on the choice of shoes and jewelry, so that the overall picture can be considered a work of art.

Nesty Odina: “Every event is above all a great symphony built on harmony. And the bride is one of the main characters of the wedding. It is very important to him that the celebration looks organic in its concept, decor and lighting features. In cases where the bride chooses a dress that is completely different from the wedding format, the designer looks for references and sketches based on compromise solutions. Thus, the product transforms, gets closer to the concept, but the original idea does not disappear anywhere.”

Everything is expandable

Another competitive advantage of custom tailoring is flexibility. It’s simple: brides are extremely volatile girls. At the final stage of preparation, they may not like a single belt or skirt treatment – and all this in order of everything. The details of a personalized dress can always be adjusted and even the cut can be rethought. And not to mention the traditional “have time to lose 5 kilos in two weeks” race, in which finished salon products are not adapted in any way.

Nesty Odina: “Yeah, that’s why we rehearse. Ideally, plan at least one so that the bride can clearly see all the lines, and we can discuss together whether something needs to be trimmed, shortened or, conversely, additional decor. I have only had a few cases where girls in the final stage did not like the style of the dress or the figure in it. Here, wedding designers immediately offer other options, perhaps with a repetition of the dress in the suit. Although this is an exception to the rule.

If the bride intends to lose weight before the celebration, I usually ask her to finish it as soon as possible so that she has time to get the dress on. But in my experience there have been very few similar incidents with a big difference in centimeters. ”

what is power

The strength of any bride is manifested not in her skillfully sharpened organizational skills and ability to stay in multitasking mode, but in her complete calm. Despite the busy work schedule, the best weddings are held in this mode. Regular trips to bridal salons and searching for just that dress take energy, time, and definitely lead to anxiety – a definite “no” for any bride. Moreover, the situation culminates when consultants in stores try to sell a more expensive option under the pretext that “it just goes more”.

Bespoke tailoring is like full-fledged therapy during a wedding procession – it’s like you’re teleported into a fairy tale without the unnecessary noise from a dozen contractors who really like to write one-word messages. The designer hangs the product on the bride, conducts a dialogue and, most importantly, offers to make the image not only better and more beautiful, but also more suitable for all your features. For a fashion designer, even the tone of your voice plays a role, and on this basis a clear match to the product develops. The bride becomes a real bride and the difficulties of preparation no longer seem like the end of the world. Because when chores turn into pleasant moments to be remembered for a lifetime, this is where the light begins.

Nesty Odina: “That’s right – the right designer always acts as a kind of psychologist, and the tailoring process becomes therapy for the bride. I really love and appreciate female beauty, I can admire and admire her forever. And when girls who are dissatisfied with their appearance come to me, with sincere pleasure I show them their best features, showing interest in them as if I were a man. A competent fashion designer will find something beautiful and surprising in everyone – it’s the tailoring process turning into another stage on the thorny path of self-acceptance. Ready-made dresses are received quickly and do not allow you to enjoy the moment. After all, a wedding dress is not about the cut. It’s about the feeling.”
