Cannes Film Festival: female directors in the spotlight of the short film selection

After viewing thousands of films, the Cannes Film Festival has unveiled the selection of short films in official competition.

The various competitions of the 76th Cannes Film Festival continue to be revealed. The last one: the selection of short films. Of the approximately 4,288 films viewed, only eleven were selected in the official competition, the organization revealed on Tuesday, April 25. Films from 12 different countries: Argentina, Colombia, Spain, USA, France, Hungary, Indonesia, Iceland, Norway, Poland, UK and Ukraine.

Of these eleven films, five were directed or co-directed by women. And it is no coincidence that the jury, presided over by the Hungarian director Ildiko Enyedi it is also very feminine. She is surrounded by the Iranian screenwriter Ana Lily Amirpouractress and director Charlotte LeBonthe actress Karidja Toure and the director Schlomi Elkabetz.

For its part, for the 26th year, La Cinef, a competition that rewards films by students from film or animation schools, has also unveiled its selection. Among approximately 2,000 short films from all over the world, the jury selected fourteen fiction and two animations, produced by ten female and six female directors, from thirteen different countries.
