A big step for Native Americans. By the 2024-2025 school year, any caricatured or discriminating images of people from the community will now be deleted public school textbooks, New York State Education officials voted unanimously on Tuesday, April 18, reports Cnn.
However, teachers will be allowed to use images of people from indigenous communities for educational purposes only. The schools will thus be able to keep the images of the natives, with their consent.

A decision acclaimed by the National Congress of Native Americans : “ Indigenous mascots dehumanize us and diminish the lasting vibrancy and diversity of our distinct cultures, values and ways of life wrote director Larry Wright Jr. in a press release.
These changes will take effect permanently. from next May 3rd. Under penalty of non-compliance with this regulation, some schools could be suppressed by state financial aid.
