The press release announcing the album calls But here we are a “brutally honest and emotionally raw response to everything Foo Fighters have endured over the past year.”

But here we are is a testament to the healing power of music, friendship and family. Brave, damaged and fearlessly authentic, But here we are starting with the newly released lead single “Rescued,” the first of 10 songs that span the emotional spectrum from anger and sadness to calmness and acceptance and countless points in between.

Hawkins died on March 25, 2022, just before the band was scheduled to perform at a festival in Bogota, Colombia. The drummer for the new song and album has not yet been identified.

“Sunny channels the naivety of Foo Fighters debut in 1995, drawing on decades of maturity and depth, But here we are is the sound of brothers taking refuge in the music that first brought them together 28 years ago, a process as therapeutic as continuing to live,” the press release reads.

The new album, the band’s 11th, will be produced by Foo Fighters and Greg Kurstin. Listen to “Rescued” above.
