A24 partners with non-profit organization Made In Her Image to launch Beyond The Screen program for non-binary POC women and directors

A24 partnered with the non-profit organization Made in Her Image to launch Beyond the Screen, a new program supporting women and non-binary POC directors.

Made in Her Image will close the curtain on the film industry for young people whose advancement and success in the film industry has historically been hampered by systemic racial and gender inequality. Thirty women and people of color, between the ages of 18 and 25, will be selected to participate in the three-week seminar, which begins in June.

During the three sessions on the business of production, post-production and distribution, participants interested in a film and television career will learn how the studio works and enable them to better understand how to lead their projects and careers. Creatives participating in Beyond the Screen Q & As as part of the first edition of the show include: burning reeds Directed by Philip Humans, Ა Reliable Producer Denise Davis and Netflix post-production executive Nancy Valle. Applications from those wishing to participate in the first cohort must be submitted by May 15th.

“In the wake of the 2020 racial justice riots, we’ve seen Hollywood’s growing commitment to equality and diversity,” said Malacca, founder and CEO of Made in Her Image. “Our goal with Beyond the Screen is to inspire young women and people of color to see themselves as the producers and distributors of tomorrow, as well as the practice of setting up internships for other studios, networks and producers on lesser-known topics.”

Since its inception in 2018, Made in Her Image has also collaborated with Panavision, Sundance, CAA, Ford and Creative Solutions Los Angeles to direct, script and film for seminars and incubators. The nonprofit is also planning another launch of Panavision Catalyst Cohort, its educational, mentoring and networking program for emerging women and color professionals in the non-binary film industry, scheduled for this fall.
