Jio Studios, the Indian content arm of Reliance Industries, unveiled a huge selection of films and streaming shows at a star-studded event in Mumbai. It has also signed a production deal with Bangladeshi film powerhouse SVF Entertainment.
The slate titles include projects for the Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, South and Bhojpuri markets and include action, drama, thriller, comedy, romance, biopics, horror and musicals.
The studio was founded in 2018, around the same time Indian streaming content was booming, when international players like Netflix and Prime Video and local services like ZEE5 Global and SonyLIV started pumping money into their local originals.
According to the SVF deal, Jio Studios and the Bangladeshi company are working to create blockbuster films from creators like Dhrubo Banerjee, Raj Chakraborty, Anirban Bhattacharya and Srijit Mukherji, with Mithun Chakraborty, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Jisshu Sengupta.
“We are in the most exciting and eventful phase of Indian entertainment, with storytelling at the heart of an era of explosive digital disruption,” said Jyoti Deshpande, president of Reliance Industries Limited Media and Content Business.
“Since its inception five years ago, Jio Studios has worked very hard to create a solid foundation for scaling what has traditionally been a very fragmented industry. We are actively working with some of the best names in the business, as well as newcomers, to reach that day where up to 100 pieces of content are produced and ready to be shown to the world.”
The series of films includes Dunk, with Shah Rukh Khan); Shahid Kapoor’s vehicle damn dad And bhadia 2 starring Varun Dhawan. Bhul Chuk Sorry, Untitled, street number 2 , Section 84, Hisab Barabar, Zara Hatke, Zara Bachke, darken, mumbaikar, The Storyteller , Dham Dham, rich are other high-profile titles associated with major Indian talent.
The web series page says Laal Battia political thriller directed by Prakash Jha and starring Nana Patekar; Union: The Making of India (Kay Kay Menon, Ashutosh Rana); Inspector Avinash (Randeep Hooda, Urvashi Rautela); Rafuchakkar (Manish Paul); bye (rapper Raftar); Shiri’s magic (Divyanka Tripathi), doctors (Sharad Kelkar); And A legal issue (Barkha Singh, Angad Bedi).
It has also invested heavily in its Marathi slate for titles like Baipan Bhari Deva, Four blind people And 1234 and premium streaming series such as Kaalsutra, Eka Kaleche Mani And Aha Aha Aha Aha. Gujarati features include Bachubhai, Chaandlo And Ghulam Choir.
