EXCLUSIVE: M88 signed a contract with the agents of filmmaker brothers Aaron Tao and Winston Tao, collectively known as TAO/S.
The award-winning Chinese-American writer-director duo, currently best known for their work in branding, recently saw their branding film The Rabbit Hole shortlisted for Ad of the Year: Charity in Shots, and the award for Best Director, Screenplay and Fiction at the One Screen Film Festival and Gold for Best Brand on the Verge of Greatness at the 1.4 Awards. The duo was also behind the film Sleep Well, My Baby, which won silver at the Cannes YDA Awards.
TAO/S’s other signature films, Watching and SuperMaarko, won an additional Cannes YDA Award and the Webby Award for People’s Voice, as well as nominations for Best Emerging Director and Narrative at the One Screen Film Festival.
Graduates of Chapman University’s directing program and UCLA Extension’s cinematography and screenwriting programs, the Tao brothers are committed to creating emotionally compelling and humanistic works with a strong emphasis on social causes.
They have also seen their films win awards at the Kinsale Shark Awards, Heartland Film Festival, Beijing Film Festival, Vimeo Staff Picks and elsewhere, and are currently working on their first feature film Goodbye hurricane based on her screenplay, which was an Academy Nicholls semifinalist, a Sundance semifinalist, and a Black List x CAPE finalist for 2021. Justin H. Min is fittingly the lead actor in the picture, while Preston Lee serves as the producer.
Founded in 2020 by former WME partner Phillip Sun and Macro founder and CEO Charles D. King, M88 represents storytellers, actors, writers and multi-hyphenates. Sun leads the company, which focuses on diverse talent, with partners Oronde Garrett and Gaby Mena. Other recent acquisitions by M88 include Power Book II: Spirit‘s Woody McClain, Boston Celtics’ Jaylen Brown, Uncertain And Ginny and Georgia author mike guayo, Bravo Burkina! Filmmaker Walé Oyéjidé and Wu-Tang: An American Saga Star Siddiq Saunderson.
