Gwyneth Paltrow told the Utah court that she screamed “You Skied Into My F-ing Back” when she hit the Resort Slope in the 2016 Septuagenarian After.

UPDATED with more details from Paltrow’s testimony“I was skiing like you and I looked down and Mr. Sanderson skied right into me,” Gwyneth Paltrow insisted on the witness stand in a Park City courtroom today.

She also said she briefly thought the 2016 encounter with 70-year-old Terry Sanderson was a “sexual assault” and “he was making strange noises that sounded male.”

Before Utah Judge Kent Holmberg, Sanderson, a jury and lawyers from both sides, Paltrow said in testimony Friday that the idea of sexual assault “was a quick thought that went through my mind as I was trying to reconcile what happened.. In response to further questions from Kristin A. VanOrman, Sanderson’s attorney, Paltrow made it very clear that she now does not believe what happened all those years ago was any kind of sexual assault.

First complained Shakespeare in love Oscar winner for $3 million for the encounter on the slopes of Utah’s Deer Valley Resort, the retired optician saw his case reduced to a $300,000 damages award. Paltrow is suing Sanderson for $1 in damages and attorneys’ fees that could run into the six figures.

Both Sanderson and Paltrow claim they had the right-of-way on the ski slope.

While showing off her paparazzi skills, Paltrow noted that Sanderson and no one else knew she was a Hollywood movie star when the accident happened. Paltrow also noted that she had “no witnesses who saw the collision.”

Sanderson, now 76, claims he was hit on the slopes of Paltrow’s luxury resort seven years ago while skiing with a ski instructor and a group that included their two children, now husband, producer Brad Falchuk, and his two include children. The prosecutor, who is in court all week, said he suffered several broken ribs and brain injuries in the incident. He also claims that Paltrow and her instructor drove off, leaving him confused, shocked, and made no attempt to arrange for medical attention.

As she said Friday and has said before, Paltrow believes it was Sanderson who drove into her, got his skis between her legs and he drove right “into my back.” The witness said she could not remember whether she was with Mr. Sanderson did not fall, but admitted that they both fell. “I turned around and yelled at him,” Paltrow said after he landed on Sanderson, who hit the snow. “I was very angry about what happened.”

“You stabbed me in the back,” said a frankly embarrassed Paltrow as she “screamed” at Sanderson in front of her son. “I was full of adrenaline … sorry for the swearing,” she explained much later when questioned by her own lawyer, Stephen Owen, and told the court that she felt “hurt” by Sanderson.

After the accident, everyone agreed that Sanderson muttered: “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” In that regard, Paltrow “remembered to ask Mr. Sanderson walking away,” before quickly leaving the scene. She doesn’t remember asking Sanderson if she was okay before she left. But, referring to Tinseltown rescuers and others, she recalled that it was implied that ski instructor Eric Christiansen would “represent” her in the accident, and he told her to “go ahead.”

The accident happened when Paltrow was walking down the hill after the lunch they were having. As Sanderson’s attorneys continued to try to trip up the witness over “inconsistencies,” Paltrow said today that she lingered long enough to “see he’s okay, stand up.”

Paltrow also admitted that it was “fair” to say that she was not there when the papers were exchanged and that in fact no one in her party saw the collision, including ski instructor Christiansen. “Eric did it on my behalf,” Paltrow repeated about who filled out the accident forms. The actress said she doesn’t believe Craig Ramone, a man “40 feet away and color blind,” actually saw what happened and said what he testified to Sanderson was wrong.

“I don’t know if he’s lying [but] what he says is not the truth,” Paltrow testified. “Mr. Sanderson beat me right up on that ski slope. … that’s the truth.”

Paltrow previously said “I don’t remember” when asked if her children were seeking her attention on the runway when the accident happened. The actor’s virtual statement from 2020 was presented to her, and in those statements from three years ago, she clearly stated that she was watching over one of her children when the incident occurred.

If that interaction with attorney VanOrman was a hit in court, it looked like Paltrow, who was also in the Park City courtroom all week, would make a statement today. After a longer-than-expected time on the stand for one of Sanderson’s daughters, the actor was on his feet just after noon Friday, according to Mountain Time.

Since this was a celebrity case and in the media spotlight, it wasn’t long before Paltrow’s testimony took place before the Goop founder’s lawyers objected to the questioning, and everything came to a screeching halt when the lawyers went to the judge. During Paltrow’s time on the stand, they approached the bank several times.

Earlier in the day, Paltrow’s attorney, Owen, got very personal with the Sanderson family, their dynamic and mental health history, in an apparent attempt to undermine the elder Sanderson’s credibility. Friday’s often acrimonious Owen hearing followed the lawyer apologizing to descendant Polly Sanderson Grasham on Thursday for being an “a-hole” in his cross-examination. Owen admitted today that his approach is why “people don’t like lawyers.”

Sanderson, Falchuk, Paltrow’s children Moses and Apple, and experts will be called as witnesses for the defense next week. The first of these seven witnesses will take the stand on March 27 at 9:00 AM MT. Sanderson was scheduled to testify on March 30, but that has now been postponed, at least in part, until Monday.
