Fremantle has established a leading documentary film label headed by Mandy Chang.
The super-indie’s head of documentaries will oversee Undeniable, which she just launched on stage at CPH:DOX in Copenhagen.
The launch of Undeniable, which accompanies “provocative, entertaining, diverse and influential” premium documentaries starring top talent, comes amid a push at Fremantle’s Documents. The equipment was recently acquired A day in America Indie 72 Films, natural history producer Wildstar Films and Israel’s Silvio Productions.
Andrea Scrosati, Fremantle’s Group COO and Continental CEO, said the launch was “part of Fremantle’s growth strategy to increase our capabilities in documentary films, as we have successfully achieved in recent years in film and drama.”
He added that Fremantle and its labels produced 52 documentaries last year, including kingdom of dreams And Mrs. America.
“The label works with the very best filmmakers and emerging talent, offering editorial and production expertise and multi-genre support,” explains Chang. “Importantly, it will provide a platform and freedom for creative talent to unleash and explore important themes and stories that need to be told.”
Fremantle owner RTL has given the super indie an ambitious revenue target of €3 billion ($3.2 billion) to be met by 2025, and last week’s full-year 2022 results showed it is now €700 million ($754 million) for that number is. The growth of Premium documents is considered an important contribution to the lofty goal. Fremantle recently signed a talent deal The case against Adnan Syed Author Amy Berg.
