Poland has “no choice” but to “get into the Ukraine conflict” if the war-torn country does not defend itself, Warsaw’s ambassador to France has warned.
Jan Emeryk Rosciszewski said Poland should join the war if Ukraine does not defend itself against Russia because the foundations of its “civilization and culture” are threatened.
Mr Rościszewski made the allegations in an interview with French TV channel LCI yesterday.
He said: “It is not NATO, Poland or Slovakia that is exerting increasing pressure, but Russia, which has invaded Ukraine.
“Russia is confiscating its territories. Russia killing its people. And Russia kidnapping Ukrainian children.

“Therefore, Ukraine will defend its independence today, or we will have to face this conflict.
“Because our most important values, which were the basis of our civilization and our culture, are under threat. So we have no choice but to get involved in the conflict.’
But the Polish embassy in France called some media “sensational” for claiming that Mr. Rościszewski announced Poland’s direct involvement in the conflict.
The embassy released a statement saying: “During a thirty-minute conversation with the editor, Ambassador Rościszewski argued that allies are needed to support Ukraine. He also spoke about the threat Russia poses to Europe and European values .
If you listen carefully to the entire conversation, it becomes clear that there was no announcement of direct Polish involvement in the conflict, but only a warning of the consequences that a defeat by Ukraine could have: the possibility of a Russian attack or the involvement of Central European countries – the Baltic States and Poland.”
Poland proposed last week to deliver MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine within “four to six” weeks.
It has already sent 14 German-made Leopard 2 tanks and offered to send the fighter jets just weeks after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
