Banijay, the world’s largest independent television production group, saw its sales rise by 16.5% following a spending spree across 15 companies.
In its first full-year results since it acquired Endemol Shine Group for $2.2 billion and went public, Banijay said revenue was 3.2 billion euros ($3.4 billion) last year, compared with 2.75 billion euros in 2021.
Banijay’s adjusted EBITDA rose 9% to €472 million last year, although its profit margin fell a percentage point to 14.7%, according to Amsterdam-listed parent company FL Entertainment Group.
The results follow Banijay’s acquisition of 15 companies, including Kindle Entertainment, which produced the Netflix series for young adults. The A Listand Mam Tor, the producer behind the BBC drama chloe.
Banijay accounted for the majority of FL Entertainment’s total €4 billion in revenue, up 15.7% from 2021. EBITDA increased by 10% to €670 million. The company’s other assets include BetClic Everest, a sports betting and gaming group.
Banijay announced its earnings on the same day as its European production rival Fremantle, which is owned by RTL. Fremantle’s revenue was up 21% to €2.3 billion, while EBITDA rose almost 15% to €162 million.
