Disneyland guests in Anaheim are experiencing real snow at the California theme park as the winter storm rages on

It wasn’t Elsa’s Frozen What made it snow at Disneyland Resort today was a winter storm that continues to wreak havoc across California and brought a cold surprise out of the sky for theme park guests.

On Wednesday, March 1st, social media was buzzing after snow started falling in Anaheim. Laughing Place captured the snowfall on video right at the theme park’s entrance, noting that it was “real snow, not soap.” This was a reference to the nightly fireworks display during the holiday season, which sees “snow” fall on guests watching the show on Main Street.

The same site shared another video showing snow falling at Downtown Disney.

Snow at such low elevations is rare for Anaheim residents of Orange County, including Mickey Mouse. However, records show that it has snowed in the city before, but for that we would have to go back as far as 1882. Anaheim Gazette reported that on January 12, 1882, there was an “unprecedented storm” that brought about two feet of snow into the city and in some areas “a depth of six feet.”

Snow would not fall again in Orange County until 1949. Although this time the storm wasn’t strong enough to give Anaheim residents enough snow to build a snowman while singing along Frozen Soundtrack, it gave Disneyland guests something to remember their trip by.

KCET, a Southern California affiliate of PBS, also showed snowfall in the Burbank area, 36 miles north of Disneyland. The network shared video of snow falling right in front of their offices.
