On air – our column “It’s a fact”, where we share various facts and historical information from the world of fashion, is worthy of targeted coverage on Internet pages. The latest “series” featured Nicole Kidman’s iconic look at the 1997 Oscars in a quirky dress that changed John Galliano’s color red carpet style forever. Yes, that’s right – a shade.
This time we decided to commemorate with a kind word Karl Lagerfeld, who brought a breath of fresh air to Chanel, rethinking the brand’s fashion codes without losing their main essence. However, it is because the name of the House of Fashion has helped to be proud for decades.

A vivid example of the above is the designer’s first evening dress for the brand from 1983. When creating the outfit, Karl decided to pay real homage to Coco Chanel and quoted one of her favorite combinations – a black outfit in the company with a bunch of pearl necklaces and bracelets. And, of course, Lagerfeld did not forget to “refresh” the image in his signature style.
The designer provided a little black dress with some pretty witty touches – multicolored embellishments on the neck, waistband and sleeves simultaneously in various shapes and variations. On the one hand, nothing special. On the other hand, here’s what’s up. From the master’s first creation, it was clear that Karl Lagerfeld would be the first designer to understand the full power of a fashion brand’s historical legacy and to beat it with a modern voice. So the little black dress shone with new colors with the help of just two innovative solutions. And this is a fact.
