The Match Factory reports hot sales for Berlin Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize winner “Afire”

EXCLUSIVE: The Match Factory has announced a number of deals for Berlin Silver Bear Jury winner from German director Christian Petzold A fire.

The focus of the summer comedy-drama, which celebrated its world premiere in Berlin’s main competition, is a heterogeneous group of people who gather against the backdrop of ongoing forest fires in a holiday home on Germany’s Baltic coast.

European deals include France (Les Films du Losange), Italy (Wanted), Spain (Filmin), Benelux (September Film), Switzerland (Filmcoopi), Austria (Stadtkino), Scandinavia (Future Film), Poland (Aurora Films), Hungary , Czech Republic and Slovakia (Vertigo), Ex-Yugoslavia (Demiurge), Romania (Independenta), Baltic States (A-One).

Outside Europe, the picture was shot for South Korea (M&M International), Taiwan (Light Year Images), Turkey (Bir Film), Brazil (Imovision) and Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay (IFA Cinema).

Thomas Schubert plays the stifled writer Leon, whose plans for a productive summer vacation with a friend are thrown into disarray when her temporary home turns out to have an unexpected, particularly messy occupant, played by Paula Beer.

The cast also includes Langston Uibel, Enno Trebs and Matthias Brandt.

A fire was Petzold’s sixth film in competition at the Berlinale get rid of (2020), transit (2018), barbara (2012), Yes (2007) and buckle (2005).

Petzold previously won the Berlin Silver Bear for Best Director barbara and the Fipresci Prize get rid of.

The film was produced by Florian Koerner von Gustorf, Michael Weber and Anton Kaiser for Schramm Film. Piffl Medien has the German rights and is scheduled for April 20.
