Alex Murdaugh is on trial in South Carolina for the January 25 murders of his wife Maggie and son Paul. Maggie and Paul were murdered on June 7, 2021. The attorney, a member of a prominent legal family, called the police to report that they had been murdered on his way to the family’s hunting lodge on June 7. Alex was indicted and charged with both murders in July 2022. He pleaded not guilty. The prosecution is asking for life without parole.
There have been allegations by the prosecution that Alex killed his wife and child to distract himself from the ongoing legal issues he was facing over his personal finances. His surviving son, Buster, sat behind his father during the trial and testified as part of the defense.
