James Corden Requests White House Concert in Reporters’ Dinner Sketch; ‘Late Late Show’ Host Announces Leaving This Week

Just days after James Corden was about to leave CBS on The Late Late Show just for Deadline, the late-night host brought his talents to the Executive Palace with a video sketch that was shown at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner tonight.

On Skate, Corden goes to the White House to look for a new job and asks POTUS himself for a gig. Biden told the host that White House spokesperson Jen Psak should temporarily replace him, hold the upcoming conference and take questions from journalists. Predictably, Corden lies to the questions before Psaki returns to the podium.

Tonight’s White House Correspondents’ dinner harks back to the 100-year tradition of the event’s presidential pageant.

The President is expected to arrive at 9 PM ET / 6 PM PT and plans to skip part of dinner for after-dinner entertainment. It includes material from the President himself and this year’s featured singer, Trevor Noah.

Biden will be the first president to address dinner since Barack Obama in 2016, as Donald Trump missed events during his tenure.

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Biden consulted with comedians about the material but did not name it. “I will say the president has a very good sense of humor and has worked hard on his speech,” he said.

This year’s dinner will be broadcast live on C-SPAN, CNN, NBC News, and other television shows, as well as on YouTube and online.
