Presented as part of London Fashion Week on 20 February 2023, the first Burberry show from new artistic director, Daniel Lee, seems to break with what the house has been offering lately. For the new Burberry, according to Daniel Lee, roses are blue and ducks are trendy.

Burberry, which makes rainwear: nothing revolutionary, per se. But reinvented by the new artistic director, such is the wind of change blowing on the most famous of the British fashion houses that it has just presented its new autumn-winter 2024-2025 collection on February 20, 2023 under the guidance of Daniel Lee.

After a stint as critically acclaimed as Bottega Veneta’s clients, Daniel Lee now brings his creative vision to Burberry. He returned to the house’s DNA by focusing on the utilitarian dimension of clothing. The collection is full of waterproof jackets, but also technical trousers with zip pockets, climbing boots. Set right in the gorpcore trend that is currently reaching new heights in fashion.

In addition to these expected yet remixed rainwear to better adapt to the times, the collection also focused on many accessories with exaggerated proportions, cut to get noticed on social networks. We obviously think of the hot water bottle, the giant trapper hats, the bags with Burberry-like “B” clasps that recall carabiners or Swiss pocket knives, and above all the duck-shaped hat that is selling like hot cakes. The bird is also available as a fun clothing model here and there, adding a welcome touch of humour. Roses also serve as a print like a neo-monogram so english.

Incidentally, it should be noted that this first Burberry collection by Daniel Lee contrasts completely with the palette of shades of beige traditionally associated with the house in the collective imagination. Lots of khaki shades, but also red and yellow: shades actually present in the brand’s famous tartan, but now unstructured, used alone or in pairs. In particular, a strong blue tending towards purple, which now serves as the preferred shade of the new brand logo (taken from the archives) for trenchit’s iconic. A collection that promises to break the three legs of a duck.
