Denis Protsenko, head doctor of the Kommunarka clinic, where Roman Kostomarov currently resides, spoke about the situation of the skater in an interview with Arguments and Facts. According to him, the athlete is getting better, but the situation can worsen at any moment.

“In the last 48 hours, organ dysfunction has started to improve. Kidney function is starting to improve. Despite the severe multi-organ failure with complete anuria – the absence of urinary function of the kidneys. There were problems in the lungs, in the work of the heart, ”said the doctor.

Denis Protsenko admitted that it is still too early to make any predictions: “The novel has been breathing on its own for the past few days, but we are aware that the situation may change.” He noted that a large team worked for the skater’s treatment. For the first five days after hospitalization, doctors met every 12 hours.

Recall that on January 10, Roman was taken to intensive care due to pneumonia. He was then transferred to the Kommunarka clinical center, where he was attached to an ECMO machine. Then its complications began, sepsis developed and blood circulation was disturbed. On February 7, the skater was amputated with both feet during the onset of gangrene. And February 14 – a few fingers on the hands.
