M. Night Shyamalan is leaving WME

EXCLUSIVE: Deadline has learned that two-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan has left WME, the agency he has worked for since 2011. The director had his seventh #1 opening at the box office last weekend with Universal’s Knock on the hut. The film grossed $14.1 million domestically and $21 million worldwide on a frugal production cost of $20 million.

Shyamalan’s former WME agents Tanya Cohen and Rich Cook joined Range Media Partners to become executives, and the $3.3 billion filmmaker followed them in April 2021. Here’s what happens in business: customers go where their working relationships go. Cook is co-founder of Range.

Range also represents Shyamalan’s production company, Blinding Edge Pictures, which is led by executive producer Ashwin Rajan.

Shyamalan spearheads the Apple TV+ lineup maid as writer, director and executive producer. maid is in the middle of its fourth and final season; the series finale is on March 17. The second season of the thriller tripled the viewership of the first season and became one of the streamer’s most watched series. maid follows a grieving Philadelphia couple after an unspeakable tragedy tears their marriage apart and opens the door for a mysterious force to invade their home.

Shyamalan made five films with Universal – The Visit, Split, Glass, Old And Knock on the hut — which have grossed a combined $734 million to date.

Shyamalan is still repped by Range Media Partners, Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole and Rowe PR.
