Success has many fathers, but failure is an orphan. Apparently, Congressman George Santos misread the memo. He once claimed to be a producer in trouble Spider-Man: Turn Off the Darkness Broadway musical that was notorious for its many problems and considered one of Broadway’s biggest flops.
Bloomberg reports that Santos claimed his membership in 2021 while talking to potential donors in his bid for Congress. The claim was rejected by the show’s executive producer, Michael Cohl, who claimed Santos was never part of the show and his name never appeared on the posters for it.
The revelation is just the latest fantasy of Santos, whose long list of fabulous stories includes his alleged upbringing, work history, sexuality and claims that his mother died on 9/11.
Spider-Man: Turn Off the Darkness ran on Broadway from 2011 to 2014 and had a long opening delay and multiple injuries to actors performing stunts. In the end, the show failed to recoup its $75 million production cost to investors.
