But when he and his men track down the woman and her “possessed” daughters, events take an unexpected turn and it becomes clear that they do not want to be saved.
“The Middle Ages and classical fairy tales present an elemental world that reinforces the patriarchal order with knights in shining armor rescuing damsels in distress. Virtue takes you on a thrilling and terrifying journey that will subvert this world and challenge the gender and power structures that protect it,” said Gabrielle Stewart, CEO of HanWay Films.
Coates won the Michael Powell Award for Best British Film at the Edinburgh Film Festival for her film hide and seek in 2014.
Virtue was written by Sam Hoare (to have you, The English game Series, A gentleman in Moscow series) and produced by Alex Cook for 10 08 Films Ltd and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Steve Bakken and Joe Derrick for Ill Kippers.
Executive producers include HanWay Films, James Brown and Matthew James Wilkinson.
‘Which attracted me and Ill Kippers Virtue was the combination of a strong original story from Sam Hoare and the opportunity to work with Joanna Coates,” said Coster-Waldau.
“First and foremost, it is hoped that Virtue will be an immersive film that surprises and delights audiences from the opening scene to the closing credits. And when the topics of virtue, honor, family, lust, love, class and fear inspiree Discussion after the credits, even better.”
