EXCLUSIVE: A notable title for sale in the European film market is Timothy Scott Bogart’s Marionette Romeo and Juliet musical, Verona With Clara Rugaard, Jamie Ward, Rebel Wilson, Rupert Everett, Jason Isaacs and Derek Jacobi.
Verona will be the first film in an original pop musical trilogy based on the true story of 1301 that inspired Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet. A wide theatrical release for Christmas is planned.
Bogart tells us: “We aim to tell the greatest love story of all time, adapted to the musical heartbeat of our time. But Shakespeare only told part of this remarkable story, the events of which changed the course of history!”

Bogart recently directed the film from the 1970s and 80s become gold on the rise and fall of his record label ex-father Neil Bogart with Casablanca Records. The picture opens in theaters on March 31.
The cast is Ferdia Walsh-Peelo (code, sing street‘Vikings’), Rupert Graves (‘Sherlock’, Emma), Tony Award winner Dan Fogler (Fantastic beasts Franchise, The Offer, The Walking Dead) and Grammy Award winners Tayla Parx and Ledisi round out the film’s all-star cast, which is currently filming on location in Verona, Italy.
Grammy-winning composer Evan Bogart (Beyonce’s “HALO”, Rihanna’s “SOS”) writes and produces the original music for the film. Three-time Oscar winner Dante Ferretti serves as production designer.
The film is produced by Bogart, Jessica Martins (become gold, leave) and Chris Torto about their newly formed Hero Entertainment partners to release Bogart’s become gold theatrical. Verona is the first in Hero Entertainment Partners’ commitment to provide $100 million in production financing for music-driven films and live theater. Wilson was last seen on the hit Netflix rom-com last year and appears next The Almond and the Seahorse. Other recent credits include the Oscar winner Yoyo rabbit. It is repped by WME and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
Three-time BAFTA nominee Everett made her final appearance in the Toronto International Film Festival’s Official Selection my policeman, opposite Harry Styles and Emma Corrin. Isaacs is best known for playing Lucious Malfoy in the series Harry Potter Franchise. Other credits include The Patriot alongside Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger and Armando Iannucci’s BAFTA-nominated black comedy Stalin’s death. Most recently he has in Mrs. Harris goes to Paris opposite Lesley Manville and Isabelle Huppert and is next seen in Bogart’s become gold.
