DOJ search of Joe Biden’s Rehoboth Beach home turned up no classified documents, lawyer says

A Justice Department search of Joe Biden’s Reboboth Beach home turned up no documents with classified markings, according to the president’s personal attorney.

Wednesday’s search was conducted “in coordination and cooperation” with Biden’s legal team, attorney Bob Bauer said in a statement. The search lasted from 8:30 a.m. ET to 12:00 p.m.

While no documents with the classified markings were found, the DOJ took “some materials and handwritten notes that appear to be related to Biden’s tenure as vice president” “for further investigation,” Bauer said.

Last month, after a search there, the DOJ seized six items with classified markings from Biden’s Wilmington home. Some documents were from his time in the Senate, others from his tenure as vice president. This search was also conducted in cooperation with the DOJ.

Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a special counsel to investigate the handling of material containing classified markings found by Biden officials at the Penn Biden Center and later in a garage and adjoining room at the Wilmington residence . After the initial discovery of documents at the Penn Biden Center in November, the FBI also conducted a search later that month, according to reports from CNN and other media.

A special counsel is also investigating former President Donald Trump’s possession of classified material. But the circumstances of this case are different because, after months of wrangling with Trump’s legal team, the FBI searched his Mar-A-Lago home on suspicion that he withheld material along with evidence of disability.
