A Briton has been arrested for allegedly trying to flee Romania after hitting a heavily pregnant woman at a crossroads and causing a miscarriage.
Ali Aboungab (24) was arrested early this morning at the Cluj International Airport in the north of Romania after he tried to leave the country after the accident.
Aboungab reportedly hit a woman who was eight months pregnant with his black Mercedes when she crossed a pedestrian crossing in central Bucharest last night.
The injured pregnant victim was taken to the St. Pantelimon Hospital in the Romanian capital, but medics were unable to save her baby, reports Gandul news website.

Aboungab, originally from Lebanon, fled in his Mercedes, which has now been found by police officers.
Police raised the alarm about Aboungab’s arrest and border guards at Cluj International Airport arrested him as he went through passport control.
Aboungab was about to board a flight to Luton Airport at 6am when he was arrested.
Earlier, police said they were called to reports that a woman had been hit by a car in Bucharest’s District 3.
“Preliminary investigations have revealed that a woman was injured by a car whose driver did not stay at the scene,” a police official told the news site.
“The pedestrian was injured, was pregnant and was taken to hospital by ambulance.”
The officer said Aboungab was arrested at the airport and was taken to a police station where he was questioned.
MailOnline has reached out to the UK Foreign Office for comment.
