Liev Schreiber rallied DC lawmakers, ambassadors and media figures to continue supporting Ukrainians as the one-year anniversary of the attempted invasion of Russia approaches.
The occasion was Not sanctionedan event at the French ambassador’s residence that brought together those approved by Vladimir Putin’s regime to support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.
The list is long, as Ukrainian Ambassador Oksana Markarova noted. Featured guests at Friday night’s event included Assistant National Security Adviser Jon Finer, Assistant Attorney General Lisa Monaco, State Department Spokesman Ned Price, Representative Brendan Boyle (D-PA), Representative Rick Larsen (D-WA), the delegates . Doug Lamborn (R-CO), Rep. Rick Larsen (DWA), Rep. Susan Wild (D-PA), Susan Glasser, Bianna Golodryga and Craig Kennedy.
Schreiber, the co-founder of BlueCheck Ukraine, a non-profit organization that accelerates financial aid for Ukrainian NGOs, said: “Our idea is simply that nobody is better able or qualified to help Ukrainians than Ukrainians themselves, as they see it did you have proven yourself time and time again. They are incredibly strong people. And our idea was just to go to Ukraine, find out who the local NGOs are, the independent groups that provide help and support, and as quickly as possible direct get support, without intermediaries to get to them.’
Schreiber referred to the work of Pavlo Schula, who pooled his resources and organized an evacuation operation with a minivan. He was contracted by a group, Kidsave, which works with BlueCheck, and the result was the rescue of more than 10,000 women and children.
“This is just an idea why Ukrainians are ideally placed to solve their own problems,” Schreiber said. “They just need our support, they need our financial support. It doesn’t get colder in Ukraine than in February. Now is a very critical time.” The Ray Donavan Star also noted that she met Schula: “I sit and think about playing a tough guy for eight years and how tough that person is to me.”
