Brooke Shields describes first being raped as a teenager

Brooke Shields has never been silent about how she was sexualized as a child, and now for the first time, the actress has shared the gruesome details of a rape experience she had as a young woman.

In a new documentary called Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, the actress describes being raped shortly after graduating from college. She did not name the assailant, but she detailed the horrific events that occurred shortly after graduating from Princeton and found it difficult to find a job after her early success. Brooke met the man for dinner, apparently to discuss business. She then returned to her hotel room to wait for a taxi.

He said go to the hotel and call a taxi. And I go up to the hotel room and it disappears for a while.” The player felt uncomfortable in a strange room and decided to use the binoculars that the man had left in the room and watch some volleyball players from the window. He continued, “The door opens and a man comes out naked and I’ve got binoculars and I said, ‘Damn.’ And I put the binoculars down and he’s already on me. It’s like a fight broke out.”

Shields went on to explain that he did not try to escape because he feared it would cause further physical abuse. “I was afraid I was going to drown or something like that. So I didn’t bother much. I was completely numb. I thought a “no” would be enough so I said “survive and get the hell out” and hung up. God knows, I knew how to leave my body. I applied this… I went down the elevator and called a taxi myself. I cried all the way to my friend’s apartment.”

For a long time, the actress did not even perceive this experience as sexual abuse. Even when the security expert showed him this, he said, “‘This is rape.’ I said, “I don’t want to believe it.”

Brooke was the victim of sexual objectification by Hollywood at the age of 11 during Pretty Baby, at the age of 15 during Blue Lagoon and Infinite Love. The iconic Calvin Klein ad also played a big part at the time, and the actress said: “You want to know what’s between me and my jeans? Nothing.” With that in mind, Shields couldn’t help but think that she was somehow responsible for her own attack. “He said to me, ‘Even if I can’t trust people, I can trust you.’ So insignificant it’s almost pathetic. I believed that somehow it provoked him. I drank wine at dinner. I went up to the room. I was just too confident.”

Brooke even wrote a letter to the attacker saying she had destroyed the “enormous trust” she had in him, but it was denied.

“I put my hands up in the air and said, “You know, I refuse to be a victim because that’s what happens, whoever you are, whatever you think you’re ready for, or whatever you think you’re not ready for. I wanted to erase everything from my mind and body and just keep walking on the path I was on. The system never came to my aid. “So I had to get stronger on my own,” Brooke finished.
