What is Green Clay?

Green clay is a natural sedimentary rock rich in mineral salts such as silica, lime, iron, aluminum and magnesium. It is acclaimed in traditional medicine for its therapeutic properties and is used as a poultice to relieve some ailments such as aerophagia, diarrhea and arthrosis, but also as a mask to combat acne and eczema problems.

There are two types of green clays, both of which can be used for skin care: illite and montmorillonite. The former is particularly absorbent, while the latter has a higher content of mineral salts and trace elements.

What are the benefits of green clay for skin?

The benefits of green clay for the skin are numerous, and it would be a shame not to take advantage of them! It is the ally of skin that suffers from excess sebum and imperfections (blackheads, whiteheads, etc.) and of those who can no longer count their sebaceous filaments in the mirror.

Green clay regulates oily skin

Green clay has a high absorbency which gives it the ability to regulate sebum production in combination with oily skin, which appears fresher and more radiant. By drinking the excess sebum, green clay also acts on pimples, whose outbreaks are reduced.

Green clay detoxifies the skin

Like a magnet, green clay attracts and fixes certain molecules accumulated on the skin’s surface, such as toxins and impurities. Once these undesirables are eliminated, the complexion is more homogeneous and acquires luminosity.

Green clay regenerates the skin

Thanks to its richness in minerals and trace elements, green clay regenerates the skin by improving collagen synthesis. Its healing and anti-inflammatory properties are also interesting for the treatment of wounds and pimples.

In powder, ready to use, integrated in a cosmetic formula… How to choose your green clay?

The green clay powder is the ideal shape for making a “homemade” face mask: just mix two or three tablespoons of clay with a little mineral water then mix with a wooden or glass spatula (especially not metal or plastic, because the ‘clay reacts) to obtain a smooth and easy to apply paste on the skin.

Depending on the desired effects, you can replace the water with a hydrosol (chamomile, rose, witch hazel, true lavender, etc.), and add a few tablespoons of natural yoghurt, aloe vera gel, honey or vegetable oils (hazelnut, hemp , tamanu etc.), as well as a drop or two of essential oils (true lavender, tea tree etc.). Everything is possible and the customization possibilities are numerous.

For those who don’t particularly like making their own blends, there is green clay tube ready to use (powder and water mixture has already been prepared) and can also be used asactive carealong with other purifying, healing and soothing ingredients, in a commercially available face mask formula.

How to apply green clay on face?

After applying the green clay mask “homemade” or in a tube in a thick layer on the face, it must be leave on for ten minutes before rinsing with warm water. Good to know : it should never dry out, because it is in contact with water that clay transmits all its nutrients. You can use a mist of mineral water or thermal water to moisten it as soon as it starts to crack.

If you opt for a purifying mask containing, among other things, green clay, it is best to refer to the product’s instructions for use.
