Damar Hamlin returned to the Buffalo Bills’ practice facility on Saturday and visited his teammates for the first time since being released from a Buffalo hospital after collapsing during a Jan. 2 game against the Bengals.
Bills linebacker Matt Milano posted a photo of Hamlin at the facility hugging another member of the team. Hamlin stood up and smiled. The image was widely shared on social media platforms.
An unnamed source close to the NFL team confirmed to the Associated Press that Hamlin’s visit did indeed take place on Saturday.
Hamlin was released Monday from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he had been treated since collapsing during a Jan. 2 game against the Bengals. He was transferred to Buffalo General Medical Center the same day.
Later in the week, the Buffalo Bills released a statement saying Hamlin “has been released from the Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute” in Buffalo. The statement went on to say Hamlin will “continue his rehabilitation at home and with the bills.”
The institute’s Dr Jamie Nadler said in a statement: “We have carried out a number of tests and assessments and after consultation with the team of doctors are confident that Damar can be safely released.”
The 24-year-old security guard has been increasingly active on social media as his condition has improved. On Jan. 7, he shared a post on Instagram thanking the medical staff and Bills fans who supported him.
“The love was overwhelming but I am grateful to everyone who prayed for me and reached out,” he said in the Post. “Behind it, we brought the world back together. If you know me, you know that only this path makes me stronger. Keep praying for me on a long road!”
