Rihanna teased her comeback with a cryptic new trailer for her Super Bowl halftime show Friday morning. Watch the full trailer above.
In the 30-second clip, the Grammy winner first appears in silhouette in a dark, empty room before sneaking full screen as a background track to the voices of fans and commentators speculating about her highly anticipated ninth album, R9.
“It’s been six years since the nine-time Grammy winner released her last album,” says one voice.
Another voice called, “Riri, where have you been?”
In the final frame of the trailer, Rihanna is front and center with her finger over her mouth, urging viewers to be quiet.
This trailer is the second teaser Rihanna fans have received this week ahead of the Super Bowl. On Monday, the NFL’s official Instagram account posted a short clip of the singer, captioned “5 weeks from now.”
In the short clip, Rihanna wears a black Fenty hoodie with the iconic photo used to announce her Super Bowl performance of her with a soccer ball. The hoodie is part of a Save X Fenty collection the star dropped in honor of her upcoming halftime show.
Rihanna will be the debut performer on the retitled Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show. Super Bowl LVII takes place on Sunday, February 12 in Glendale, Arizona. The show is produced by DPS with Roc Nation, Jesse Collins as executive producer and Hamish Hamilton as director.
Announcing Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance, Roc Nation founder Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter said: “Rihanna is a generational talent, a woman of humble beginnings who has exceeded expectations at every turn. A person who was born on the small island of Barbados and became one of the most prominent artists of all time. Self-made in business and entertainment.”
More than 120 million viewers watched the latest Super Bowl Halftime Show, and it recently won three Creative Emmy Awards.
Previous appearances on the Super Bowl Halftime Show have included The Weeknd, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Prince, Madonna and more.
