Matt Reeves Confirms The BatVerse Will Work Separately From The Rest Of The DC Universe

Since James Gunn and Peter Safran took over at DC Studios, their 10-year plan for the entire (multi)universe has already seen cancellations and layoffs, but it seems that Matt Reeves’ future in the company is safe. With Henry Cavill and Patty Jenkins out of the picture, the SnyderVerse becomes a thing of the past and the future would have bat wings.

Matt Reeves Confirms The BatVerse Will Work Separately From The Rest Of The DC Universe

As Reeves himself told Collider, the director will soon meet with Gunn and Safran to start drafting the BatVerso: “They’ve been fantastic. […] In fact, we should be meeting in the next few weeks because they want to talk to me about the master plan, and then they want to hear the plan for the BatVerse. We will meet to talk about all this. Look, I’m excited to hear what they’re going to do. The BatVerse thing, as James said, and as Peter said, it’s a separate thing that they let us do.”. With these words, Reeves also confirms (and finally) that Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne will not necessarily become part of that shared and cohesive universe that DC wants to set up in true UCM style. The director will thus be able to keep the dark and gloomy tone that he gave to ‘The Batman’ and continue to work with his style on Colin Farrell’s series ‘The Penguin’ and on the other spin-offs that he is preparing.

We also know that Reeves is already writing his new film and although he has refused to confirm it, everything indicates that it is the sequel to the superhero Gotham. Between the two installments will be ‘The Penguin’, which doesn’t have a release date but will act as a link between the two installments and takes place temporarily just one week after the events of ‘The Batman’.

The BatVerse expands

The Penguin isn’t the only Batman foe Reeves wants to feature, and it looks like the director will be meeting with other creatives. to launch various projects on the Scarecrow, Clayface or Professor Pyg. Additionally, it’s been announced that HBO Max will host at least one series centered around Arkham Asylum, an idea that started as the adventures of the Gotham City Police Department and has evolved into a villain story.
