Alex Brightman returns to Broadway’s ‘Beetlejuice’ tonight after suffering concussion on Christmas Eve

Broadway bug juice Star Alex Brightman, who suffered a concussion in a stage accident on Christmas Eve, is set to make a surprise return tonight for the weekend’s final performances of the musical. He will be on stage for the musical’s performances on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will perform the show’s final performance on Sunday.

“After two weeks of extreme rest, recovery and re-evaluation, I return to the show tonight!” Brightman said in a statement on Instagram. “Safety is my biggest concern. We took the right steps to bring me to tonight. Build stamina, double (and triple) check light and sound sensitivity, and finally train for 4.5 hours yesterday to really see what’s possible. So far all things have been a success (scary yes) and I will continue to take it day by day, effort by effort.

Brightman revealed his concussion diagnosis on Dec. 27 in an Instagram post. At the time, he said he would leave the show until he received the “all clear” from doctors, leading to speculation that he would not return. in the title role before the show closes this Sunday.

Details of what production spokesmen called an accident have not been released. Brightman performs several physically demanding movements with large props throughout the musical.

The actor has been with the hit musical since it opened at the Winter Garden Theater on Thursday, April 25, 2019 and returned for its post-pandemic close at the Marquis Theater last April. bug juice is one of four Broadway shows to close this weekend in the usual post-holiday rundown. In addition to the musical based on the 1988 film, there are other shows with closing performances on Sunday 8 January. 1776, almost known and In the forest.
