Jeremiah Green dies: Humble Mouse co-founder and drummer turned 45

Jeremiah Green, co-founder and drummer of the rock band Modest Mouse, died of cancer just days after his condition was made public. He was 45 and his death was confirmed by the band and his mother.

“It is with a heavy heart that the Green and Namatame families announce the passing of their husband, father, son and brother Jeremiah Green,” his mother Carol Namatame wrote on Facebook.

“Jeremiah, drummer and founder of the Issaquah-based band Modest Mouse, lost his brave battle with cancer on December 31st. He went to sleep peacefully,” the report continued.

“Jeremiah was a light to so many. At this time, the family requests privacy. More information will follow, including a celebration of life for friends and fans in the coming months. Jeremiah’s loved ones would like to thank everyone for their continued well wishes and support.”

In the early 1990s, Green formed Modest Mouse in Washington state with frontman Isaac Brock and bassist Eric Judy. The first Modest Mouse album, It’s a long ride for someone with nothing to think aboutwas launched in 1996 and has become a cult classic over the years.

Modest Mouse announced Green’s death in an Instagram post on Saturday.

“Today we lost our dear friend Jeremiah. He went to rest and just disappeared,” reads the report. “I would like to say a few kind words now, but this is just not the time. It will come later, and from many people.”

Modest Mouse has released eight albums, including The Golden Casket in 2021.
