A Brit tragically drowned while snorkeling with his son in the Dominican Republic.
The victim – identified in reports as Ian Simpson (55) – was swimming in choppy waters off Caleton de Bruno beach in the town of Cabrera when he failed to turn up on Thursday afternoon.
His teenage son called for help and rescuers in a wooden fishing boat came to his aid around 1pm.
Finally, Mr. Simpson’s lifeless body was found in the water of a nearby beach, El Puerto, and he was hoisted onto the boat and taken ashore.

Mr. Simpson was taken to the hospital Dr. Virgilio Garcia, where medics declared the cause of death as suffocation by drowning.
Javier Mendez, who was part of the group that helped bring the tourist ashore, said he was near the beach when a group of men asked him to help search.
He said: “We knew a tourist was missing, so we went out in a small boat to look for him. He floated on the surface of the water.
“He was already dead when we brought him on board.”
Apparently Mr. Simpson and his family in the Dominican Republic for a New Year’s Eve trip.
The State Department apparently provides consular assistance to Mr. Simpson’s family.
