The world caught but not: 8 Russian models that were not canceled this year

This year, the effect of cancellation culture has affected almost everything related to Russia. Our compatriots were suspended overnight from participating in all major events, competitions and concerts. In Italy, a course on Dostoevsky’s work was canceled, in the Netherlands they refused to cooperate with the Hermitage, and our football team was excluded from the list of participants of the World and European Championships. The organizers of the Venice and Cannes Film Festivals announced that they refused to receive delegations from Russia this year.

And we just started listing. The culture of cancellation (or, ironically, the cancellation of culture) has also touched the theater field – in February Milan’s La Scala Theater removed opera singer Anna Netrebko from March performances, and then London’s Covent Garden Theater canceled the Bolshoi tour … which are already in the final planning stages.

The fashion industry has not been left out either. At the beginning of March, the head of the High Fashion Federation, Ralph Toledano, removed the online show of Russian designer Valentin Yudashkin from the program. But the cancellation culture seems to have skipped the models. No matter how impressive the flurry of hate in their direction, they still continue to shoot for authoritative glossy publications, participate in shows of famous brands and shine in advertising campaigns. Today we are talking about eight models that have not been canceled no matter what.

Irina Shayk

This year, Irina Shayk has tried to cancel more than once. Recall the scandal when the model posted a photo of Olivier salad on the social network and signed “Russianzz on Wednesday”. Naturally, the public could not get over the letters Z. However, that hasn’t stopped her from attending fashion shows for Jacquemus, Chanel, Burberry, Versace, Vivienne Westwood and Ralph Lauren, as well as starring in Zara, Mugler ad campaigns. and Giorgio Armani.

Natalya Vodianova

Another Russian model that does not require introduction. This year, Natalia Vodianova starred in the advertising campaign of the Narciso Rodriguez capsule collection for Zara. She also gave a big interview to American Vogue where she talked about reuniting with her younger sister, She. Of course, all this caused a lot of hatred from the public. But canceling Vodianova did not work.

Tanya Curbanova

This fall, New York, London, Milan and Paris hosted the fashion shows of the spring-summer collections of the following year. And our next model has been on more shows than Bella Hadid herself. Tanya Churbanova has 24 shows, including Acne Studios, Blumarine, Alyx, Dion Lee, Chloe, Fendi, Givenchy, Dries Van Noten and Loewe. Tanya also starred in an advertising campaign for Miu Miu. We are proud!

Simona Kust

It seems that this year Zara is keeping a close eye on Russian models. We have already said that the Spanish mass market filmed Irina Shayk and Natalia Vodianova in advertising campaigns. But that’s not all. In November, a catalog with the main character Simone Kust appeared on the brand’s website. She also posed for the fall issue of iD magazine, participated in the Paco Rabanne campaign and shone in the pages of the glossy CAP 74024 Magazine.

Alesya Kafelnikova

If you may not have heard of the previous two models, then you definitely know Ales Kafelnikova. And not only thanks to the relationship with the rapper Pharaoh and the famous father Yevgeny Kafelnikov, but also thanks to the success in the modeling business. This year, Diesel took part in the shows of David Koma and Dilara Fındıkoğlu.

Yana Dobrolyubova

Many people know Yana Dobrolyubova as a participant in the show “You are a top model” on TNT. But her career in the fashion industry began even earlier. In the fall of 2019, Yohji Yamamoto walked for Victoria Hayes and Act N°1. And in 2022, Rick Owens, Balmain and Jean Paul Gaultier appeared on the show she.

sasha pivovarova

Sasha Pivovarova has been in the modeling business for almost 20 years. She entered the agency in 2005, and since then she has been participating in performances and filming for authoritative glossy publications. This year she appeared in an ad campaign for Blumarine (who, by the way, was styled by Lotta Volkova) and also walked the runway for Ami and Thom Browne she.

Sofia Steinberg

Little Zara? Here is another Russian model who starred in the brand’s advertising campaign this year. He has also walked the podium for Dsquared2, Khaite, Blumarine, Altuzarra, Etro, Fendi and Givenchy.
