Keira Knightley joined co-star Ben Whishaw in London on Monday for a season two photocall promoting their hit Netflix spy series Black Doves.

The 41-year-old actress, who reprises her role as clandestine operative Helen Webb, stepped out at Savoy Place on the Victoria Embankment. She was joined by fellow cast members Sarah Lancashire and Ambika Mod for the rooftop launch celebrating the return of the espionage thriller, which premieres on Thursday, November 5.

Knightley channelled the sleek aesthetic of her on-screen alter-ego by wearing a chic all-black ensemble. The monochromatic outfit featured a playful nod to the series, with delicate red birds embroidered along her sleeve in reference to the show's bird-themed title.
The contemporary spy role stands worlds away from the lavish period pieces that originally made Knightley a household name. To create her look in the series, costume designer Ian Fulcher assembled a tailored wardrobe designed to emulate the poise of classic screen spies.
Costume Inspirations and Red Carpet Style

Fulcher has previously explained that he drew inspiration for the production from "the golden age of spy dramas." The designer assembled concept mood boards with archival images of cinematic icons Catherine Deneuve and Grace Kelly to inform Helen Webb's sophisticated wardrobe.

Knightley's performance in the debut season earned her a Golden Globe nomination, helping establish the London-set thriller as one of Netflix's most successful British original series.

Mod, who joined the cast for season two in an undisclosed mystery role, cut a glamorous figure at the rooftop event in a low-cut red dress. The actress previously earned widespread acclaim for starring as Emma Morley in the Netflix adaptation of One Day and for her breakthrough performance in the BBC hospital drama This Is Going to Hurt.

Lancashire also attended the London photocall, returning as Helen's formidable intelligence handler Reed. The actress is celebrated for her acclaimed leading role as Sergeant Catherine Cawood in the BBC police drama Happy Valley.

Scream star Neve Campbell also joined the Black Doves cast for the new season and posed for photographers at the London rooftop launch.

Fellow cast member Gabrielle Creevy attended the photocall in an elegant grey sheer dress. The Welsh performer is best known for her role in the BBC series In My Skin.

Andrew Buchan, who plays Helen's husband Wallace Webb in the series, was also among the cast members in attendance at Savoy Place.
Season Two Plot and Netflix Viewing Figures

The first season of Black Doves became one of the streaming platform's most discussed British releases, drawing praise for its sleek visuals, twisty espionage plot, and stand-out performances from Knightley and Whishaw. The series amassed 60 million views within a week of its release in December 2024.
The official synopsis for season two reveals that Helen remains deeply compromised: "Helen (Keira Knightley) is still betraying her nation's secrets to the covert organisation she serves: the Black Doves. But after the misadventures of last Christmas, and with her husband Wallace (Andrew Buchan) preparing to become Prime Minister, she is walking a more treacherous line than ever."

The synopsis details rising danger for her associates: "As Helen's enigmatic handler Mrs Reed (Sarah Lancashire) is ensnared in a ruthless plot to undermine her position in the Black Doves, Helen is reunited with her best friend Sam (Ben Whishaw). The once high-end triggerman is now reduced to lonely drinks in Soho bars and low-rate hits."
The logline concludes: "As they search for answers, loyalties are weaponised, trust is shattered, and the fight to protect the people they love could cost everything. With all the explosive wit of series one, Helen and Sam's mission leads them back to old friends and enemies, through the dark decisions and painful sacrifices of their pasts, and right to the heart of the Black Doves."

West End Stage Role in The Lives of Others
Away from the small screen, Knightley has been starring in a West End stage adaptation of The Lives of Others, based on the 2006 Oscar-winning German feature film about state surveillance in East Berlin.
The Love Actually actress stars opposite Bridgerton star Luke Thompson. In the production, Knightley portrays theatre actor Christa-Maria Sieland, who is in a relationship with playwright Georg Dreyman, played by Thompson.
The co-stars share an intimate bedroom scene that has drawn comparisons to Thompson's work in the popular Regency drama. In the sequence, Knightley wears a slinky nightie while Thompson strips down to his underwear.
The pair romp on a bed in scenes that sources described to the Daily Mail as "like a scene from Bridgerton." A production insider added: "There are lots of jokes in the show about the couple having a lot of sex."
Audience advisories warn that the drama deals with challenging subjects. An official warning states: "This production contains themes of an adult nature including: strong language, smoking, sexual coercion and rape, suicide."
The play holds its opening night on Thursday evening, and fans eager to see the duo on stage will face ticket prices running up to £225.
