Director James Gunn released a set photograph on Instagram yesterday featuring actor Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen in the upcoming film Superman. The image provides a first look at the character, who is best known in comic books as Superman's sidekick from the Daily Planet.
Gisondo, who was also credited as Tyler Gisondi for roles in Santa Clarita Diet and The Right Gems, plays the iconic sidekick. Accompanying the photo, Gunn posted: "Happy anniversary to Superman’s pal Jimmy Olsen, who debuted on this day in 1941 (although he did appear before that as a ‘delivery boy’ in Action Comics #6). Created by Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster and Bob Maxwell. Can’t wait for you to see @skylergisondo’s take on Superman on July 11, 2025."
Production details and plot summary
Filming for the movie wrapped late last month. Gunn did not bring footage or details to Comic-Con, choosing to wait and build audience interest closer to the theatrical release.
The storyline follows Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. The character is portrayed as the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way of life, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as antiquated.
