Health officials still recommend wearing a mask during the holidays, even as Covid cases continue to decline.
Dr. Mandy Cohen, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), recommended in an interview to wear a mask when traveling or meeting loved ones – and to get the latest Covid vaccine before the holidays.
The guidelines come as Covid cases continue to decline and up to four times more Americans are getting up-to-date vaccines compared to last year.
Dr. Cohen, who led the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services before taking her position as CDC director in July, said she and her husband, as well as their 9- and 11-year-old daughters, all have Covid- 19 and received a certificate. Flu vaccines.
She said, “I’m not just the CDC director. I’m also a doctor and a mother. And I want to tell you what I do for my own family.”

Dr. Cohen gave an interview to Yahoo about safety recommendations this holiday season. The site asked her to answer six frequently asked questions about health and vacations, and she answered every question.
When asked how to prevent illness while traveling and spending time with loved ones, Dr. Cohen, among other things, with hand washing, improving room ventilation by opening windows and wearing a mask.
In response to a later question about the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), Dr. Cohen: “I will encourage you [parents] Applying the same practices we’ve always used, namely staying home when you’re sick, washing your hands, staying away from others who may be sick and making sure you use tools to protect yourself – or be it masks or ventilation or others.’
The CDC did not respond to DailyMail.com’s repeated requests for clarification on its official recommendations.
On its website, the Department of Health currently recommends hiding from others for at least 10 days if you have tested positive for Covid and up to 10 days if you have been in contact with someone who has tested positive.

Dr. Cohen said, “I wouldn’t recommend anything to the American people that I wouldn’t recommend to my own family.”

A 30-page report released by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) calls for a complete overhaul of the CDC after public confidence plummeted amid a severe pandemic.
“I hope people can hear this and get to know me as a person so they can cut through some of the information they hear and understand why I recommend this to my family and want them to be healthy as well.”
She added: ‘Another thing to think about is your personal risk.
“Are you over 65?” Do you have an underlying disease? Are you visiting someone over 65? Are you dating someone undergoing cancer treatment?
“These people are at the greatest risk of something bad happening. So in those cases you want to use as many of these tools as possible.”
After a sharp spike earlier in the summer, Covid cases have been steadily declining since mid-September, according to CDC data.
There were 15,745 hospitalizations as of Oct. 28, according to the most recent data available. At this time last year there were 23,311.
Now Americans are feeling Covid fatigue — 52 percent say they “definitely” or “probably” won’t get the latest Covid-boosting shots.
Dr. Paul Offit, a pediatrician, previously told DailyMail.com that younger adults do not need the vaccine because they are already at low risk of serious disease.
